Uniforms that Educate the Next Generation
Amiga Montessori required a complete uniform redesign for staff at their childcare centres. They chose to work with artist Merindah-Gunya to create a bespoke artwork, reinforcing their professionalism and commitment to inclusivity, Cultural awareness, and respect for diversity. Using the art across a range of workwear–including blouses, skirts, dresses and tops–they created a unified look across a diverse range of items.

- Consider offering a few options for your team to choose from
- Expect to receive a range of feedback
- Approach it thoughtfully
- Give it the time it deserves

“The bright and visually striking uniforms have also improved visibility, making our staff more recognizable to parents and within the community. This has helped build stronger relationships between staff, parents, and children.“
“The excitement and joy from the children—who love the colourful designs—has been a highlight, particularly as we use the uniforms to educate them about Indigenous Culture.”
Interview With Max Bergh from Amiga Montessori
How did you select Merindah Gunya as the artist for this project?
I came across her stunning artwork at Officeworks and was later captivated by her message and energy on Instagram. Merindah has an incredible ability to modernise and make ancient cultural stories accessible to a wide audience, which resonated deeply with our vision.
We believe strongly in women’s empowerment, so working with a young, strong female entrepreneur like Merindah was a perfect fit for us. After the art classes she conducted with our children, we were so impressed by her unique approach that we commissioned her to create a special piece for our uniforms.
What were some of the most rewarding aspects of this project for your school?
One of the most rewarding aspects has been seeing how well our choices have been received by the staff. The decision to upgrade to professional blouses, for instance, was a deliberate nod to the professionalism and dedication that our educators display every day.
Watching them wear their uniforms with pride and confidence has been incredibly satisfying.
Gifting hoodies to ensure comfort in all weather conditions was another rewarding decision.
Many staff members expressed their gratitude, noting that they had never been provided with such practical yet thoughtful attire before. It was fulfilling to know that we had successfully addressed both the practical and emotional needs of our team.
